As the illustrator for Wanna Go. Wanna Stay, my focus was on capturing Maria's emotional journey through raw, textured illustrations. I wanted her portrait to reflect the depth of her struggle, so I used bold, expressive textures and design elements to mirror the intensity of her experience. Each line and texture in her portrayal symbolized her internal turmoil, from the chaos of an abusive relationship to her pursuit of freedom. The rough, layered approach allowed her character to come to life, capturing both her vulnerability and strength. Through this technique, I aimed to visually communicate the rawness of Maria’s story, giving readers a deeper, more visceral connection to her journey.
